At least 19 people were killed in an Egyptian minibus crash

According to the health ministry, at least 19 people were killed and six were injured when a minibus carrying them overturned in northern Egypt’s Nile Delta on Saturday.

The minibus crashed into a ditch in Dakahlia province, according to the ministry, and the accident was caused by a malfunctioning steering wheel, without elaborating.

Traffic accidents are common in Egypt, where roads are frequently neglected and driving rules are disregarded.

According to official figures, approximately 7,000 people were killed on the roads of the Arab world’s most populous country in 2021.

In July, a bus collided with a truck parked on the side of the road in central Egypt, killing 25 and injuring 35.
