Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Wike has described elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission under the leadership of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as “completely hopeless”.
Amaechi told journalists on Saturday during the governorship and State Assembly elections that he was among those who voted against Yakubu’s reappointment.Â
He claimed that the person who nominated Yakubu for INEC appointment is a member of Bola Tinubu’s camp and Buhari is aware. Tinubu was declared the winner of the presidential election held on February 25 by INEC, but his victory has been challenged in court.
“I have spoken to everyone concerned about this issue before the election,” Amaechi said. Some of us were opposed to Mahmood’s reappointment.Â
“The person who nominated him for appointment is from Tinubu’s camp. So, were you hoping for success?Â
“Here in Rivers State, Mahmood worked as Executive Secretary of TETFUND under (Governor Nyesom) Wike, so what you see here is that APC, SDP, and the rest are contesting elections not against PDP – against INEC, against police.”
