Auwal Mashi, the administrative secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Kaduna State, has allayed fears that elections in the state’s nine local government areas would be canceled due to security challenges and a lack of fuel.
He made the assurances during a meeting on Thursday with traditional rulers and representatives from all political parties across the state.
INEC, he said, is committed to holding free, fair, and credible elections in the state, and he urged voters to prepare to vote for the candidate of their choice without fear, while also urging them not to sell their voter cards to politicians.
“Anyone selling a voter’s card for material gain or for any other reason must have done so to his or her detriment by only disenfranchising him or herself from participating in the election process,” he said.
The INEC secretary also stated that elections in the state are expected to be held in 8,012 polling units and that logistics funds are already in the Commission’s coffers in preparation for a trouble-free election in the state.
