Several Sunday Igboho Security Operatives Injured in Reported Bandit Attack During Oyo Forest Operation

Several members of a private security outfit linked to Yoruba Nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were reportedly injured after suspected bandits allegedly attacked them during an operation in Oyo State.

The incident was said to have occurred inside the Old Oyo National Park, where members of the Iru Ekun security outfit were reportedly conducting an operation against suspected kidnappers and other armed groups believed to be hiding in the forest.

According to sources, the operatives deployed surveillance drones to monitor movements and identify locations allegedly used by criminal elements before advancing into the forest.

However, the operation reportedly turned violent when heavily armed men, believed to be operating through cross-border routes, allegedly opened fire on the security personnel, triggering a gun battle inside the forest.

Several members of the security team were reportedly injured during the exchange of gunfire. As of the time of this report, authorities have not officially confirmed the incident or disclosed the exact number of those injured.

Reactions

Some Nigerians praised the operatives for confronting suspected criminals despite the risks involved.

Others called on security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and provide better support for local security outfits.

Many expressed concern over the continued insecurity in forested areas and urged the government to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts.

Some commenters questioned the lack of official confirmation, saying more details are needed before drawing conclusions.
