A man has stirred reactions online after explaining why he refused to attend the wedding of a close friend despite being heavily involved in the preparations for months.
According to him, he had been one of the groom’s strongest supporters throughout the planning process and was initially selected as a groomsman. As part of his commitment, he spent ₦80,000 on a custom-made suit specifically for the wedding.
Sharing his experience, the man said he played an active role in organizing the event.
“We had been planning the wedding together for months. I followed him around the market to buy things, helped him book the MC and the DJ, and assisted with several other preparations.”
He explained that he was fully invested in ensuring the wedding was successful and never expected any change to his role.
However, things took an unexpected turn just a day before the ceremony.
“Then, a day before the wedding, he called me and said I shouldn’t be among the groomsmen anymore. Instead, he wanted me to help look after the drinks during the event. ₦80,000 on a suit simply because he was my good friend. And now he’s dropping me, probably because the other guys are richer.”
Rather than confront the groom, the man said he decided not to attend the wedding at all.
His story has since generated mixed reactions on social media, with many users debating issues of friendship, loyalty, respect, and expectations surrounding wedding ceremonies.
Reactions
@EmekaWrites: “A day before the wedding? That’s disrespectful. If he wanted to make changes, he should have done it weeks earlier.”

@KingDavid: “I wouldn’t attend either. Friendship should come with respect.”
@TinaSpeaks: “Imagine helping plan the wedding and then being reassigned to drinks management. That’s heartbreaking.”
@MrFunnyGuy: “From groomsman to drinks supervisor in less than 24 hours. That’s a promotion in the Ministry of Refreshments.”
@BossLady: “The suit is now looking for another wedding to attend.”
@MaziJoke: “My brother should wear the suit and attend another event. ₦80k must not waste.”

@Seyi: “He spent the money voluntarily. The suit can still be worn to other occasions.”
