Frustration is mounting among Nigerians after reports emerged of persistent delays at an Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registration centre, with many prospective voters allegedly unable to complete their registration due to network-related problems.
In a video making rounds online, a man claimed that large numbers of people arrived at the centre early in the morning but were left stranded after officials reportedly informed them that the registration server was experiencing technical difficulties.
According to him, several individuals waited for hours without making any progress, while some eventually gave up and left the premises.
The man expressed disappointment, noting that many citizens had sacrificed work hours to register and questioned why such technical issues were occurring at a time when interest in voter registration appeared to be increasing.
He further revealed that the incident was not his first experience with the problem, alleging that he had visited the registration centre multiple times without success.
In another part of the video, a woman was also seen complaining about the same issue, adding to concerns raised by those present at the centre.
Speaking in the video, the man said:
“They’re telling us that the server is not working fine, that there is slow network. People are leaving. People have been here since morning, no progress, nothing. The server is down.
“Today is Monday and people left their various jobs to come to this place just to be disappointed.
“Nigerians are eager. Why is it now that it is important to register for vote that they’re telling us network is bad? Imagine a whole government thing.
“People have been here since morning. This is past twelve yet no progress. Since I’ve not eaten and this is the second time I’m coming here.
“Imagine Monday morning, young people filling the INEC office just to register, and they’re frustrating people, saying go to another centre because their network is bad. For the past three days I’ve been coming here…”
Reactions
“If citizens are making the effort to register, the system should be ready to accommodate them.”
“Imagine taking a day off work and still going home without registering.”
“This is exactly how people become discouraged from participating in elections.”
“INEC needs to address these technical issues quickly if the reports are accurate.”
“The turnout itself shows that many young Nigerians are interested in the electoral process.”
