A woman has sparked outrage online after accusing a hospital of negligence and possible baby swapping following a disturbing childbirth experience.
According to her account, she was rushed to the hospital by her husband in the early hours of the morning while in severe labour and delivered around 4:35am.
She claimed that shortly after delivery, a nurse informed her that she had given birth to a healthy baby boy but advised her to rest due to exhaustion before seeing or carrying the child herself.
Her husband had reportedly left briefly to retrieve essential baby supplies they forgot to bring during the emergency hospital visit.
However, the woman said that when she later regained strength and asked to see her child, confusion erupted after discovering the baby presented to her was not breathing—and was a girl, not the boy she had initially been told she delivered.
“This morning, I gave birth around 4:35AM to a healthy child. I later woke up to carry him but he wasn’t breathing. After all the confusion, we suddenly realised it was a baby girl and not the baby boy the nurse earlier announced,” she recounted.
Alarmed by the inconsistency, her husband reportedly demanded a DNA test, which she alleged showed that the baby was not biologically hers.
“My husband immediately demanded a test because something felt wrong. To our shock, the result allegedly confirmed that the baby was not biologically mine. I need the hospital to explain what happened to my child,” she said.
The grieving mother also shared that she had struggled with childlessness for nearly seven years before finally conceiving, making the ordeal even more devastating.
“It’s almost seven years of marriage and waiting for a child. The journey was filled with prayers, pain and hope, so why should this happen to me now?” she lamented.
The incident has fueled emotional reactions online, with many calling for a full investigation into the hospital’s practices and accountability for any possible wrongdoing.
Cases of alleged baby swaps and hospital negligence have occasionally surfaced in Nigeria and globally, often leading to public outcry, legal action, and stricter hospital procedures.
