Lecturer Goes Viral for Calm Response After Student Says “You Don’t Know How to Teach” During Online Class

A lecturer has gone viral on social media after calmly addressing a student who reportedly told him, “you don’t know how to teach,” during a disrupted online class.

The incident happened during a virtual lecture that was affected by technical difficulties, once again highlighting concerns about unreliable internet connectivity in Nigeria’s education sector.

Rather than reacting harshly, the lecturer responded with composure after the session, a move that has since sparked mixed reactions online. While some praised his professionalism, others noted the growing frustration students face when dealing with unstable online learning conditions.

Explaining what happened, the lecturer said:

The network was not very friendly during our class today. This made someone say, ‘the man does not even know how to do online class’. I want you to understand that we don’t have much power over network services in Nigeria. The only thing one can do is to probably change the network, location or browser. In my own case, I have already set up in the office and it’s not convenient moving around.”

He also appealed for patience from students, acknowledging their concerns:

So, please don’t be annoyed. I know it can be very frustrating when you are eager to learn but the coast is not clear. I respect and value you all. God bless you.”

The incident reflects ongoing challenges that became more visible during the COVID-19 era, when many Nigerian institutions adopted virtual learning. Despite efforts to adapt, poor internet infrastructure continues to affect both lecturers and students, often leading to tension during online classes.
