A Nigerian man has stirred conversation online after sharing why he chose not to tip a security guard during a second visit to the same restaurant.
According to the X user, identified as @Pentane, the encounter happened two weeks ago when he visited an eatery and was warmly greeted by the security guard after finishing his meal. Moved by the friendly reception, he decided to dash the guard ₦2,000.
However, when he returned to the same restaurant last week, the security guard repeated the same enthusiastic greeting. This time, the man simply extended the greeting and walked away without giving any money.
Explaining his decision, he wrote:
“I deliberately didn’t give him anything because I don’t want him to start feeling entitled to my kindness every time I show up.”
His post has since gone viral on X (formerly Twitter), sparking mixed reactions from users.

“It doesn’t matter just show kindness even if na 5H.”
The incident has sparked a broader debate about kindness, tipping culture, and entitlement. While some believe generosity should be consistent regardless of expectations, others argue that repeated giving can sometimes create a sense of obligation or entitlement.
