A Nigerian man has sparked massive reactions online after sharing a hilarious experience from a WhatsApp group created to plan the burial of a wealthy deceased man.
Posting on X (formerly Twitter), the man said he was added to the group to assist with burial arrangements but was immediately stunned by the scale of donations being announced.
According to him, the first donor contributed ₦15 million, followed by ₦13 million from the second person and ₦12 million from the third. He added that six other members donated ₦10 million each, pushing the total donations close to ₦100 million within a short time.
The man admitted the figures left him completely intimidated, as he had only planned to contribute a cow. While he was quietly considering how to exit the group without embarrassment, the donation trend suddenly took an unexpected turn.
“As I was thinking of how to leave the group with the one cow I planned to donate,” he wrote, “someone donated ‘May his soul continue to rest in peace.’”
He concluded by saying the group has remained silent since then.
