Inferno at Great Nigeria House: Trader’s Heartbreaking Last Call Before Tragic Death

A devastating fire at the Great Nigeria Insurance House in Lagos has claimed multiple lives and left many trapped, shocking the city in the early hours of the new year. The 25-storey building caught fire reportedly starting on the fourth floor, quickly spreading to the sixth floor before engulfing the entire structure and nearby buildings.

Among the victims was Nze Obum, a China-based cloth merchant who had returned home for the festive period. Around 2 a.m., he reportedly called for help, telling rescuers he was trapped along with many others. “My children have no one else to care for them,” he pleaded, according to a report shared on X by @maygistv. Tragically, he was later confirmed dead, trapped beneath the collapsed rubble of the plaza.

During the inferno, a detached section of the building gave way, burying several traders under debris. Rescue efforts were hampered by the scale of the fire and structural collapse, leaving families and the community in mourning.

The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and calls for stronger safety measures in commercial buildings across Lagos.
