Police have arrested a Nigerian woman who refused to return ₦800,000 that was inadvertently transferred to her bank account.
The woman acknowledged that she had spent the entire amount on fabrics for her business, even after the rightful owner begged her repeatedly.
The incident was discovered through a sequence of posts that the sender, @ii_kach, posted on X (formerly Twitter).
She had first taken to social media to beg for assistance after inadvertently moving ₦800,000 from her Union Bank account to the incorrect GTBank account, which was intended for an Ajo contribution.
She recently disclosed that the woman had been located and taken into custody.
She claims that the suspect admitted to spending all of the money and asserted that she was left with nothing. She added that on the day the incorrect transfer was made, she was expecting ₦1 million from another person.
“UPDATE ON THE 800k ERRONEOUS TRANSFER,” @ii_kach wrote. “The lady has been caught by the police. She admitted to spending it all on fabrics for her business and claims she has no money left. Her brother has made a deposit of ₦300k.”
She added that the woman’s brother had stepped in and promised to refund the full amount before the end of June.
Before the arrest, the sender had expressed her frustration online, stating that despite reporting the issue to Union Bank and requesting that GTBank place a lien on the recipient’s account, the funds were still moved.
“The lady has finished the 800k… I’m finished 😭😭 AJO CONTRIBUTION MONEY IS GONE,” she wrote in one of her earlier posts.
Following the arrest and ongoing recovery process, many concerned users have taken to the comment section to sympathize with the victim and express outrage over the suspect’s actions.
