On Wednesday, the Zamfara Police Command reported neutralizing one alleged bandit and detaining five others for kidnapping, livestock rustling, and possession of weapons and ammunition.

SP Mohammed Shehu, a police public relations officer with the Zamfara State Command, released a statement on Facebook.

Gusau, according to the police, successfully repulsed a bandit attack, and the suspects were found to be in possession of two AK-47 rifles, 104 rounds of live ammunition, two AK-47 magazines, and a number of charms.

He claimed that after being detained, Umaru Buba and Babuga Manu both admitted to engaging in kidnapping and cattle rustling in a number of states, including Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna, Niger, and other areas in the North.

Other suspects, Abu Umaru and Isah Ayub, who resided in the old Doka Village in the Gusau LGA, were also detained, according to him. They also had a working motorcycle and a sharp knife on them.

“In the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to belonging to a gang of bandits operating in Mada, Wonaka, Yandoto and Tsafe under their gang Commander Malam Tukur.

“He also confessed that, on several occasions, they blocked Gusau – Tsafe – Yankara Road and abducted an unspecified number of people and took them to their enclave in which their relatives paid ransom before their release,” the statement added.
