A woman’s decision to care for her late sister’s six children has caused a major rift in her marriage, leading her husband to leave their home.
According to a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the woman’s elder sister passed away, leaving behind six daughters aged between six and twenty. After attending the burial, the woman brought all six children into her home, despite not having any children of her own.
Her husband reportedly felt overwhelmed by the situation. “Although they don’t have kids yet, but bringing 6 kids to your house, hmmm,” the woman wrote. Arguments over the arrangement reportedly erupted occasionally. Eventually, the husband decided to leave, telling his wife, “I am not marrying again, either she return the kids back to their father or I won’t come back home.”
When the woman asked what he would have done if the children were his, he responded, “I wouldn’t want to give birth to 6 kids in the first place,” before packing his belongings and leaving.
The post sparked varied reactions online. Some users emphasized the importance of communication and mutual respect in marriage. Sammy said, “She should have communicated her decision to her husband first… she totally disregarded and disrespected him in his home.”
Others focused on the practical challenges. Georgina wrote, “She can be her sister’s keeper without having to bring those children into her home… If your niceness brings discomfort to another person, your niceness is wickedness.”
Some highlighted the sheer scale of the responsibility. Omo_Benya noted, “Even my mum who lost her younger sister with 4 kids, she only took one… That 6 is too much.” OmoIyabiola added, “Taking up responsibilities of 1 kid is much already, but 6 is too far.”
The discussion has ignited wider debates about balancing compassion with partnership, underscoring the challenges couples face when unexpected family responsibilities arise.
