On Sunday, a 19-year-old woman named Fatimo Agboke allegedly fatally stabbed her neighbor’s son, Farouk Azeez, during a confrontation, leaving the residents of Sebiotimo, located along Ijagemo Road in the Ijegun area of Lagos State, bewildered.
A source who wished to remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of the incident stated that the two had been romantically involved prior to the altercation on Sunday. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the state police command, was unable to confirm the details of the altercation.
Hundeyin confirmed that the suspect was arrested and taken into custody immediately after the incident.
It was learnt that trouble started when Agboke reportedly got into a fight with the 20-year-old victim.
During the confrontation,it was gathered that she allegedly seized a broken bottle and stabbed Azeez in the neck, resulting in his death.
Attempts to rush the deceased to the hospital for medical attention were abortive as he tragically passed away on the way.
According to Hundeyin, “on September 9, 2024, a man from the Ijegun area of the state filed a complaint at the Isheri-Oshun Division alleging that his son and a neighbor had a fight.”
“The victim was stabbed with a broken bottle on his neck by Agboke, which caused him grievous bodily harm. He gave up the ghost during an attempt to rush him to a hospital for medical attention.
“The division raced to the scene where the lifeless body of the deceased was seen on the ground, facing up in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his neck. The corpse has been removed and deposited at the Mainland General Hospital in Yaba for autopsy.”
Hundeyin stated that the suspect had been arrested and detained while stating that an investigation was underway to uncover the incident’s circumstances.
Speaking about the incident on Wednesday, a resident claimed that the two had been suspected of having a past affair. The resident stated that the deceased had provoked the suspect on the day of the incident, which caused her to grab a broken bottle and stab Azeez in the neck.
“They were exchanging words. People said they had been intimate before, so that’s why they were arguing. The boy didn’t touch or hit her; she just rushed to grab a bottle and stabbed him. I think she was hurt by what he said.
“What the boy said triggered something in her, so she stabbed him out of anger.”
When asked Hundeyin if the command knew what the deceased had said to the suspect that provoked such a violent reaction, he simply replied, “We don’t know.”
