A viral post has stirred mixed reactions online after a woman reportedly paid tithe from a loan she had just collected.
According to the story shared by X user @kenkelewu, the woman secured a ₦5 million loan from a cooperative and immediately contacted her pastor after the approval. During the call, she requested the church’s account details and proceeded to transfer ₦500,000—10% of the loan—as tithe.
The eyewitness expressed strong disapproval of her action, stating that he reduced communication with her afterward because he couldn’t understand the decision.
As expected, the situation has sparked debate, especially around faith, financial wisdom, and personal beliefs.
Reactions trailing the post:
Dolly P wrote:
“Not all cash inflow is breakthrough. Some of it is debt and it is important to know the difference. Borrowed money is not income yet she has already promoted it to first fruits. This is how people create spiritual joy and financial suffering at the same time.”
Rex Ogiri wrote:
“I very much believe in tithing as a believer, I believe it’s an optional challenge thrown to us believers.”
Ebenezer remarked:
“Paying tithe from a loan is a wrong move.”
Her emphasized:
“Tithing is good for the heart. It makes you a liberal soul. That’s all I can say.”
