Woman Shares How Buying Pure Water from Another Shop Strained Relationship with Neighbour

A lady on X (formerly known as Twitter), identified as Ebun, has narrated how a simple pricing discovery over pure water led to an awkward situation with a neighbourhood shop owner she had been buying from regularly.

According to Ebun, she normally purchases about 10 bags of sachet water every month from a woman whose shop is located close to her compound. The arrangement had been routine for a while, until she recently discovered the difference between the wholesale and retail price.

She explained that during her last visit to the shop, she met a supplier delivering bags of pure water. Out of curiosity, she asked one of the delivery boys how much they sold each bag to retailers.

The boy reportedly told her the wholesale price was ₦350 per bag, while the shop owner sells it to customers for ₦500 per bag.

Ebun said she chose not to confront the woman about the price difference. Instead, she quietly bought something else from the shop and left.

Later that same evening, she decided to check the price at another shop located directly opposite the first woman’s store.

When she asked the shop owner how much a bag of pure water cost, the woman replied that it was ₦400 per bag.

Satisfied with the lower price, Ebun immediately bought 10 bags, and the sales boys helped carry them to her house. According to her, they had to walk past the first woman’s shop while delivering the water, making the situation quite obvious.

The next morning, Ebun said she greeted the first shop owner as usual, but the woman reportedly ignored her greeting.

Ebun assumed the shop owner had noticed that she bought the water elsewhere and might have been displeased about losing the regular patronage.

Sharing the experience online, she wrote:

Yesterday, I went to her shop to buy water and met the supplier delivering bags of pure water to her. Out of curiosity, I asked one of the boys how much they sold a bag. He said ₦350 per bag, but this woman sells it for ₦500.

I didn’t say anything. I just bought something else instead of water and left.

Later that evening, I went to another shop directly opposite hers.

‘Madam, how much is a bag of pure water?’

‘₦400,’ she replied.

I said, ‘Madam, please give me 10 bags.’”

The story has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many people debating whether the first shop owner was wrong to feel offended or if the customer was simply being practical by choosing a cheaper option.
