Wizkid for President? Starboy Teases New Political Party Amid Historic Spotify Milestone

Nigerian music superstar Wizkid, real name Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, set social media abuzz after hinting at a potential presidential run in a viral video on January 8, 2026. The clip, filmed during a relaxed moment with friends and family, saw him jokingly—or perhaps seriously—mentioning the creation of the “Wizkid Political Party (WPP).” He stopped short of naming an exact election year, leaving fans and critics speculating.

The announcement coincided with a historic achievement: Wizkid became the first African artist to reach 10 billion streams on Spotify, cementing his global influence.

Beyond music, Wizkid has been making waves socially, recently inducted as an honorary member of the Lagos Motor Boat Club, a prestigious venue for Nigerian elites. The induction, marked by a certificate and club hat, highlighted his growing reach beyond entertainment into elite social circles.

While it remains unclear if his presidential tease was serious, the video has already sparked nationwide debate about the singer’s possible future in politics.
