A Nigerian man has sparked reactions online after sharing his experience with a neighbour who began making frequent requests shortly after moving into his compound.
According to a tweet shared by @lizzyjollof on X (formerly Twitter), the neighbour knocked on his door on the very day she moved in. After introducing herself, she immediately asked if he had spaghetti or macaroni, explaining that her daughter couldn’t sleep without eating.
Although he had spaghetti at home, the man said he chose to decline the request, noting that he had learned not to attend to every need—especially from strangers.
What began as a simple request soon turned into a pattern. The neighbour reportedly started asking for various items, including Maggi, table water, a charger, a blender, and even a power bank.
The situation escalated further when she borrowed ₦20,000 and failed to repay it. Days later, she returned to request an additional ₦30,000.
“That was where I drew the line,” he said. “After that, everything in my house suddenly became ‘finished’. I would always tell her I was using my charger, my power bank—everything.”
He later discovered that the neighbour had a baby daddy who provided for her financially, which made him question her constant requests and intentions.
The story has since generated widespread reactions online, with many users sharing similar experiences and emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries early.
One user commented, “You try sef, ₦20k? I no go even reach that stage.” Another added humorously, “Na you spoil am from the beginning 😂 once you give them space, they go turn it to office.”
The incident has reignited conversations about personal boundaries, with many agreeing that while kindness is important, it should not come at the expense of being taken advantage of.
