A Nigerian woman has shared a troubling experience online, recounting how she was allegedly assaulted by her fiancé’s shop assistant just weeks before her traditional marriage ceremony. The story has sparked heated reactions on social media, with many questioning whether her fiancé could truly protect her in the marriage.
The Incident
According to the woman, the altercation occurred last Saturday when she was unable to reach her fiancé by phone. Concerned, she went to his shop to check on him.
She met the shop assistant, who explained that her fiancé had taken his brother to the hospital and left his phone behind. She then requested ₦600 from the assistant to pay the commercial motorcyclist who had brought her to the shop. The assistant refused, saying he had been instructed not to release money in his employer’s absence.
As tensions escalated, the woman reportedly tried to take the money herself. This led to a physical confrontation in which the assistant allegedly slapped her and tore her clothes while neighbors recorded the incident.
Fiancé’s Disappointing Response
When her fiancé returned, she expected him to discipline his employee. Instead, he apologized to her but offered no action against the assistant. He reportedly said the worker “used to smoke” and suggested she should not have fought.
This response has caused concern online, with many suggesting that it demonstrates a lack of protective instinct and accountability—qualities many see as essential in a life partner.
