UNIZIK lecturer uses “photo attendance” to prevent fake signatures

A lecturer at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has become well-known for putting in place a creative “photo attendance” system to deal with chronic absenteeism and student signature forgery.

The lecturer, Dr. Taiwo Oluwaseyi, also known as @taiwo_2222, clarified in a TikTok video that students are now required to attend a group photo taken at the end of each lecture, which serves as a sort of attendance record.

The video showed a dramatic view of the class, with students waiting in line to be photographed for the attendance record after the lecture. The lecturer asserts that the new system has greatly increased student attendance because more students are now trying harder to attend classes on a regular basis.

“No more signature attendance. Signature forging is real. It’s either you show in the class picture or not,” the lecturer declared in his caption.

He also emphasized that any student who was not in the group photo would be considered absent under his new system, even if their name was listed in any signed register.

“If you’re not in the photo, you weren’t in class. That’s the rule,” he wrote.
