A Nigerian lady has ignited conversation on social media after questioning the popular idea of being an “understanding girlfriend” in a struggling relationship.
Sharing her thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), she expressed confusion about why some women are praised for being “understanding” even when both partners are facing financial difficulties.
According to her, many relationships involve both partners being broke, yet the woman is often celebrated for her patience or support. She highlighted scenarios where the boyfriend works hard to survive while the girlfriend has no income, yet she is still labelled as making sacrifices.
She also mentioned situations where the boyfriend buys groceries, cooks, and shares meals with his partner, but the girlfriend still claims she is the one enduring hardship. Similarly, when both partners share intimacy, the satisfaction is mutual, raising the question of why only the woman is seen as “understanding.”
