Ogun State police arrested two brothers, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, 28, and Sunday Nwachukwu, 24, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Camry car at a car wash.
The siblings were apprehended on Wednesday, November 30, while driving the aforementioned vehicle to Imo State.
The suspects were apprehended by men from the Federal Highway Patrol who were on stop-and-search duty along the Lagos/Ibadan highway, according to the command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement issued on Thursday, December 1.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspects fled when the car was stopped for a routine check at around 11:30 p.m.
“While the officers were questioning one of them who drove the car, the two brothers who were inside abruptly abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels.”
However, the police pursued them, arrested them, and took them to the Ewu-Oliwo division for proper interrogation.
Interrogated, the two brothers from Fagba, Lagos, admitted to stealing the car from one Bello Muyideen Kolawole of Idimu.
When contacted by the DPO of Ewu-Oliwo division, CSP Toyosi Bello, the car’s owner confirmed that the siblings were working at a car wash near his shop, and that they “ran away with the car when he took it to them for washing,” he said.
