Tribute Planned for Late Nigerian Singer Ifunaya Nwagene After Tragic Snake Bite Death

A tribute has been organized in honour of fast-rising Nigerian singer Ifunaya Nwagene, who tragically passed away after being bitten by a snake at her residence in Abuja.

According to earlier reports by GistReel, the 26-year-old soprano singer was bitten by a snake at her home, an incident that later claimed her life despite medical intervention.

The Abuja Metropolitan Music Society (AMEMUSO) Choir, of which Ifunaya was a member, announced the tribute via a post on Facebook and invited the public to register for the event.

A flyer shared alongside the announcement revealed that the tribute will hold on February 8, 2026, at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, by 6:00 pm.

Following her passing, AMEMUSO also released a detailed account of the incident leading to her death. According to the choir, Ifunaya sent a distress message to their WhatsApp group at 10:13 am on January 31, 2026, informing members that she had been bitten by a snake and needed urgent help.

She was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), where anti-venom was reportedly administered. Sadly, despite efforts by medical personnel, Ifunaya was pronounced dead at 12:20 pm the same day.

Meanwhile, Ifunaya’s brother, Kingsley Nwagene, has also spoken out about her death in a series of emotional Instagram posts. He disclosed that his sister had called him earlier that morning, around 8:30 am, explaining that she had been bitten by a snake and was on her way to the hospital.

Kingsley alleged that delays and negligence at the hospital contributed to her death, expressing deep frustration over what he described as a lack of timely medical response.

The tragic loss of Ifunaya Nwagene has sparked widespread grief within Nigeria’s music and choral communities, with many paying tribute to her talent, dedication, and promising future.
