A Nigerian lady has stirred conversations online after recounting a frustrating outing with a friend—an experience that left her questioning the nature of some modern friendships.
In a video trending on social media, she explained that she invited her friend out simply to avoid going alone. However, things took an unexpected turn even before they met, when the friend allegedly asked her to send transport money.
This request immediately raised concerns for her, as she wondered why she should be responsible for funding her friend’s movement just to hang out.
The situation didn’t end there. According to her, upon arriving at the venue, the friend went on to order more food than she—the one who initiated and intended to pay for the outing. That moment, she said, made her feel less like a friend and more like a sponsor.
While she acknowledged that some people are comfortable splitting bills, she emphasized that her personal style has always been to take care of expenses when she invites someone out. What bothered her, however, was the feeling that her generosity was being taken advantage of.
By the end of the experience, she said her perspective had shifted. Rather than risk feeling exploited again, she now prefers going out alone.
In her words, she questioned whether friendships are becoming “transactional,” where gestures of kindness are met with expectations rather than appreciation.
Reactions Online
The story quickly drew a wave of mixed and candid reactions:
“Choose your outing buddies wisely and inform them of your budget.”
“So woman too dey fear billings.”
“Lol 🤣. That’s how your gender behaves, even you yourself are not innocent. Sense of entitlement is way out of this world. They love receiving, receiving and receiving without giving back.”
“You women have no idea how generous men can be. Treat your man right and wait for him to bless you.”
“At least una don finally see wetin men dey always complain about una gender. Make e no be like say men dey craze.”
