President Bola Tinubu has limited the number of vehicles that Federal Government heads of agencies, ministers, and ministers of state may have in their official convoys to no more than three.
No additional vehicles will be assigned to them for movement.
The President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, released a statement today announcing the cost-cutting measure, which was signed by the President.
President Tinubu reduced the number of officials in his entourage on foreign trips from fifty to twenty in January of this year, marking a significant step in cutting government spending. He cut it to 25 officials for local trips.
In a similar vein, he cut the vice president’s entourage to 15 officials for domestic travel and just five for international travel.
President Tinubu also mandated in the directive released today that no more than five security personnel be assigned to any minister, minister of state, or head of agency.
The security team will comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
No additional security personnel will be assigned, he ordered.
In order to determine an appropriate reduction in the deployment of their vehicles and security personnel, President Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser to consult with the Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies.
All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes.
