A video showing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu momentarily losing his footing during a ceremonial reception in Türkiye has gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred on Tuesday as the Nigerian leader joined a guard of honour march-past organised in his honour. In the short clip, President Tinubu appears to briefly stumble but quickly regains his balance, after which the ceremony continued without interruption.
The video spread rapidly online, drawing reactions from users in Nigeria and Türkiye. Turkish media accompanying the clip reportedly captioned it:
“Cumhurbaşkanı Erdoğan’ın karşıladığı Nijerya Cumhurbaşkanı Bola Ahmed Tinubu yere düştü.”
(Translation: “Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was received by President Erdoğan, fell to the ground.”)
President Tinubu is in Türkiye on an official visit aimed at strengthening the long-standing diplomatic ties between both countries and exploring new areas of cooperation.
During the visit, Tinubu is scheduled to hold high-level bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, focusing on trade, security, investment, and regional cooperation. The visit will also feature the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between Nigeria and Türkiye.
