Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recently shared a throwback video showing Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, kneeling to thank Wike after his victory in the 2023 governorship election.
The clip, which has resurfaced online, has ignited discussions amid the ongoing political tension between the two men. In the video, Governor Fubara is seen kneeling before Wike in a gesture of gratitude shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner. At the time, Fubara was widely regarded as Wike’s anointed candidate, with the former governor playing a pivotal role in his election success.
Olayinka’s decision to release the video comes as the political relationship between Wike and Fubara continues to deteriorate. Many social media users interpreted the post as a subtle jab, seemingly intended to remind Fubara of his past loyalty to Wike.
Reactions online were mixed. While some mocked Fubara and questioned his current fallout with Wike, others defended the governor, noting that political alliances often shift. Supporters argued that falling out with a former benefactor is not unusual, pointing out that Wike himself had previously parted ways with allies who had helped his rise.
The resurfaced video has once again highlighted the ongoing power struggle in Rivers State, keeping the spotlight on the evolving political dynamics between Wike and Fubara.
