An old image of Nyesom Wike, the current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, holding an umbrella for former President Goodluck Jonathan has gone viral online, sparking a flurry of responses.
Popular blogger Tunde Ednut posted the picture to Instagram, showing Wike walking next to Jonathan while providing an umbrella to protect him while the former president moved with other officials.
The picture, which is thought to have been taken while Jonathan was in office, went viral very fast and sparked a lot of conversations among Nigerians who compared Wike’s lowly origins to his current political power.
Many people have reflected on how wealth and power can transform people in the comments section. Some have drawn attention to the differences between Wike’s influence now and in the past.
This picture emerged during the ongoing political unrest in Rivers State, where Wike is allegedly embroiled in a power struggle with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who has been suspended along with other state elected officials.
