A user on X (formerly Twitter), @Honestarsenal, recently shared a story about how love turned into disappointment, leaving netizens both shocked and reflective.
According to him, he had waited an entire year for his ex-girlfriend to accept his proposal. Their relationship coincided with a pivotal moment in his life—he was admitted to Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), an opportunity he nearly gave up for love.
“I almost forfeited the admission because of her. I felt like I had finally found love, and I didn’t want school to separate us. During my first three months in school, we were always talking and I got carried away with love instead of focusing on my studies. It was during my first test that I realized my life was already starting to spoil because I couldn’t concentrate,” he wrote.
The turning point, however, came when his ex-girlfriend visited him at home. According to @Honestarsenal, she stole his father’s charger and a memory card. Upon confrontation, she admitted to the theft and returned the items.
“After that, my dad warned me never to see her again with me. From that moment, the feelings just died,” he explained.
The story quickly went viral, with many users discussing how early red flags in relationships can sometimes outweigh a year of patience and affection.
