Four Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officials have been sacked and 14 others demoted for various offenses committed.
The NIS spokesman, DCI Tony Akuneme, revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday that the personnel appeared before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service before being sanctioned.
As said by Akuneme, “The move was a part of efforts to rid the Service of bad eggs and in furtherance of the Federal Government’s fight against corruption.”
According to the statement, two additional people were redeployed to different areas, 11 others were handed warning letters, and one was forced to resign from duty.
According to the statement, 11 people are currently awaiting trial, while four others have been fired or acquitted.
The spokesman informed the public that there are no sacred cows in the NIS and that all violators will face proper punishment without fear or favor.
The message urged the people to be vigilant and to support the Service in fulfilling its purpose.
The message also advised the general public to contact the NIS through any of its channels with feedback, inquiries, or concerns.
