“The Chief Nursing Officer told me to iron her scrubs,” a Nigerian nurse recalls her first day on the job in a hospital ward

Kendra, a Nigerian registered nurse and midwife, told a Chief Nursing Officer about her first day on a hospital ward.

She told the microblogging platform that the CNO had ordered her to iron a scrub.

According to her, the request was extremely perplexing because it was outside of her job description, but the CNO seemed unconcerned.

She wrote;

“Today I was posted to a new ward. I came in, changed my clothes and sat down. A nurse came in and I greeted her. The next thing she told me “come and iron my scrubs” I was confused and she really asked me why I was shocked. Why should I iron your scrubs? Nah Nigeria is crazy.

And she was like I am the CNO. And so fucking what? Is it not the same license we have? Where was it written in my resumption letter that I am here to iron a CNO scrubs? It’s paining me that I ironed because I didn’t just want to cause wahala this new week,”

She really opened her mouth to tell me that” why are you confused?, if you see the things as I need when I was a new nurse”. And in my mind, I am like, how is that my business? People really need to do better Fr. The first time you are seeing me and you are telling me to iron her scrubs for her. God. Nigerians should learn how to treat their subordinate for real.”
