Tems makes history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for an Oscar Award

Temilade Openiyi, a.k.a Tems, a popular Nigerian singer, has been nominated for the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12, 2023.

On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Twitter handle announced the 2023 nomination list.

Tems was nominated for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles.

Her collaboration with Rihanna on the song ‘Lift Me Up’ earned her a nomination for Best Original Song. The duo was nominated for ‘Best Original Song’.

‘Lift Me Up’ was one of Marvel’s ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ soundtracks. Rihanna and Tems co-wrote the soulful song, which was produced by Ludwig Göransson and directed by Ryan Coogler.

Many Nigerians are excited by the singer’s nomination, which comes just a week after famous American rapper Snoop Dogg asked to collaborate with her.
