Michael Ogbugu, 18, has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command for the extortion and blackmail of a former secondary school classmate at the Orchid Estate in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos State.
Michael allegedly took a screenshot of the victim—whose name has been withheld—while they were engaged in a video chat.
Then, Ogbugu threatened and intimidated her into sending more graphic pictures and videos by using the image.
The suspect also asked her parents for money and sex, according to state Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin, who verified the incident to our correspondent in a statement on Thursday.
He continued by saying that the suspect was quickly apprehended after the victim’s sister informed the police about the incident.
“A female resident of Orchid Estate, Lagos, came to the station on September 11, at about 12 pm, and reported one 18-year-old Michael Ogbogu, who was a secondary school friend to their sister at college at Igbo Efon in Lekki ( name withheld).” The statement said.
She claimed that a while back, the aforementioned Michael took advantage of a video conversation with their younger sister to take a screenshot of her in her underwear. Ever since then, he had been using it to blackmail her to get more nude pictures and video and also to demand sex from her and to ask her to get money from her parents.”
Hundeyin further stated that the suspect has since made confessional statements after his arrest.
“The case is currently under investigation. Further development will be communicated,” he added.
