Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old Kwara State College of Health Technology final-year student, was killed, and the Kwara State Police Command has detained several people in connection with the murder.
On August 11, 2024, Mojisola’s lifeless body was discovered at a trash site in the Aleniboro neighborhood of Ilorin.
Local resident Mr. Olorunoje made the startling discovery when he came upon the body after leaving the mosque.
According to Police Public Relations Officer DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, on August 13, 2024, Miss Blessing O. filed a missing persons report.
Miss Blessing, who resides in the Gbomi area of Offa, Kwara State, reported that her roommate, Mojisola, had been unaccounted for since August 9, 2024.
Miss Mojisola’s last correspondence came from Timileyin, who had introduced her to Mr. Adebayo Happiness, a Summit University student, over the phone.
Happiness allegedly invited Mojisola to a night party under the pretense of hiring her as his girlfriend for a fee of fifteen thousand naira (#15,000.00).
Upon her arrival in Ilorin, Mojisola expressed discomfort with the situation and noted that the promised party did not seem to be occurring.
Shortly thereafter, her phone became unresponsive, and all attempts by Miss Blessing to contact her were unsuccessful.
The police were notified of a case of culpable homicide on August 12, 2024, following the discovery of an unidentified female body at the refuse dump.
Detectives examined the scene and found blood traces near the victim’s ear. The body was subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where it was later confirmed to be Mojisola’s.
Since then, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the case after the Kwara State Police Command detained a number of suspects connected to it.
Victor Olaiya, the Commissioner of Police, has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding Mojisola’s death and to hold those accountable.
