In the Ikutoke village in the Ode-Remo area of Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, two adult males were kidnapped by some individuals on Friday while they were inspecting farmland. A suspect has taken into custody.
A police source, who was not authorised to speak to the media, talked on the condition of anonymity, on Sunday, that the victims, identified as Olajesu and Juwon, in the company with a surveyor and a young boy, had gone to inspect the boundary of a farm in the village before the incident happened.
It was reported that one Gani Idowu had invited Juwon and Olajesu to inspect the land, but Idowu had excused himself and told his guests he was going home when they arrived at the farm.
The source added that as soon as Idowu left the farm, leaving his visitors who were still engaged on the farm, the kidnappers dashed out from a nearby bush and abducted Olajesu and Juwon.
The source narrated, “On 06/09/2024 around 10:00HRS, Olajesu, Juwon, also known as Alapanla, and Kusimo, who is a surveyor, along with a young boy, travelled to Ikutoke village, where Ganiu Idowu intended to show them the boundary of a farm in the Ikutoke village near Ode-Remo.
“It was alleged that suddenly, Ganiu Idowu informed them that he was returning home while others were still engaged on the farm.
“The kidnappers emerged and took Olajesu and Juwon shortly after Ganiu Idowu left.”
Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for Ogun State Police, confirmed the incident to our correspondent over the phone on Sunday after being contacted.
Odutola noted that one suspect had been arrested in connection with the incident.
“Ganiu Idowu is suspected to have orchestrated the kidnap of Olajesu and Juwon in Ikutoke village in the Ode-Remo area. He has been arrested and is undergoing an investigation.
“Odutola stated that men from the underworld will not be allowed in Ogun State, as pledged by Commissioner of Police Alamutu Abiodun.”
Last Thursday that some gunmen abducted an assistant Chief Nursing Officer with the Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan Remo, Mrs Elizabeth Uruakpa.
The gunmen ambushed Uruakpa, 66, at the entrance to her home behind the new Ilisan market, as she was reportedly leaving the evening church service.
Many locals and business owners reportedly fled the neighborhood in fear after the incident, closing their doors before anyone could catch them off guard.
Our correspondent was informed by a local resident that the victim was kidnapped by the gunmen around 7 p.m. when she was returning from church.
