Popular gospel singer Sinach is being sued for N5 billion by music producer Michael Oluwole, better known by his stage name Maye, for allegedly violating her copyright in her 2016 worldwide hit song, Way Maker.
Maye is requesting a court declaration to acknowledge his contributions as the song’s co-author and co-owner in the lawsuit with the number FHC/L/CS/402/2024.
He also claims that his rights have been repeatedly violated, and he is requesting N5 billion in general damages.
Sinach, however, disputes the producer’s assertions, claiming that she is the song’s only creator. Prior to the release of Way Maker, she also highlighted how well-known she was throughout the world as a gospel performer.
In order to give both parties more time to present evidence, the trial was postponed until January 29 and 30, 2025, after starting on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
