A restaurant belonging to a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Akin Adeyi, has been demolished in Osogbo.
Adeyi, in 2021 approached the PDP Governorship Aspirants Screening Appeal Committee with a petition against the academic qualifications and records of Senator Ademola Adeleke.
We understand that Mr Adeyi’s business, Kwality Resort spread over four plots of land and said to be worth several millions of Naira was demolished.
He claimed that the demolition was overseen by a popular PDP chieftain loyal to Adeleke, political thugs, and men dressed in Nigerian Police Force uniforms.
During the demolition, two people were assaulted with cutlasses by armed thugs.
Adeyi told The Whistler, an online news publication, that the attack was motivated by his involvement in the certificate dispute Adeleke is facing at the tribunal.
“I was informed by one of my workers that my restaurant had been demolished over the night,” he said. “Those who came with the bulldozer to my business spot were accompanied by thugs armed with guns, cutlasses, knives, and other weapons.” They arrived in government vehicles. I’ve been attacked in a similar manner before.
“I was told that the Adelekes claimed that I am the cause of their problem now that the governor is facing certificate issues at the Tribunal. Sometimes last year, I wrote a petition and appeal to the screening appeal of the PDP where I said they should screen Adeleke properly because he had some deficiencies in his credentials which may cause problems for the party. That they shouldn’t allow our effort to be wasted and that the party should settle for another candidate.
“This is the genesis of the problem that I had with them that made them pull down my business place,”
Adeleke, on the other hand, has denied any involvement in the demolition.
“I am not a vindictive governor, and I am not behind the demolition of Adeyi’s business premises,” he said.
The Governor, speaking through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, insisted that the Adeyi allegation is false.
According to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, “the insinuation is completely false.” Governor Adeleke is not a vengeful ruler. He is the Governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, including Akin Adeyi.”
