A young Nigerian lady has sparked widespread reactions online after sharing a painful account of alleged abuse she endured while working as a housemaid for a pastor’s family.
In a viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the lady described her time in the cleric’s home as one of the most traumatic periods of her life, despite the family’s strong religious image.
According to her, the man of the house was a pastor, while his wife was popularly addressed as “Mummy.” However, she claimed the warmth often associated with such titles did not reflect how she was treated behind closed doors.
She revealed that she was largely confined to the background of the house and was only allowed into the sitting room on Sundays, and even then, just briefly to watch films.
Recounting a particularly frightening incident, she alleged that the pastor’s wife once threatened her after a door was mistakenly left open.
“She told me that if anything happened to her child, even if she saw just one bite mark on the child’s body, she would throw me from upstairs to downstairs,” she said.
The young woman further claimed that her employer boasted of having the power and money to suppress any legal case that might arise, including using her father’s wealth if necessary.
Out of fear and a desire to avoid trouble, she said she remained silent for a long time. However, she explained that she has now found the courage to speak out and share her story.
Her revelation has triggered intense discussions online, with many Nigerians recounting similar experiences. While one user commented, “Some pastor houses are worse than hell,” another wrote, “Religion doesn’t equal kindness.”
The video continues to circulate, fueling conversations about domestic workers’ rights and the gap between public religious image and private behavior.
