A member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has ignited widespread online discussions after expressing dissatisfaction with the salary allegedly paid to one of the church’s zonal pastors in Abuja.
The member, identified as Ucee Harmony, a songwriter and long-time RCCG congregant, shared his concerns in a Facebook post following a testimony delivered by the pastor during a church service.
According to Ucee, the zonal pastor revealed during his testimony that he earns ₦80,000 monthly as his salary from the church. The disclosure, he said, left him deeply troubled, especially considering the high cost of living in Abuja.
Ucee described the amount as grossly inadequate for a full-time pastor who is a family man, questioning how such an income could sustain a household in the federal capital territory.
He further criticised the church’s administrative structure, alleging that pastors are treated like regular employees of the church headquarters. According to him, pastors are required to remit all tithes, offerings, and other financial contributions to the central church authority, only to receive a fixed salary at the end of the month.
Ucee argued that this system strips pastoral work of its spiritual essence and reduces it to a routine salaried job. He suggested that the arrangement gives the impression that church activities are being run primarily as a business rather than a spiritual calling.
In his words:
“A Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor who oversees one of the RCCG zones in Abuja came to our church today and shared a testimony. One thing that stood out was when he disclosed that, as a zonal pastor in Abuja, his salary is ₦80,000.
A mature family man serving full-time in Abuja earns ₦80,000 monthly. If pastors are truly called and ordained by God, why are they treated as employees and paid such meagre salaries?
Why must all offerings, tithes, and seed sowings be remitted to the headquarters before pastors wait till month-end for salary? If this is the case, then the church is being run like a business rather than a spiritual institution.”
Ucee, who stated that he has been a member of RCCG for several years, concluded by saying he could not ignore what he described as an uncomfortable truth, adding that he would not “call black white” simply out of loyalty.
The post has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users sharing his concerns about pastors’ welfare, while others defended the church’s structure and questioned the accuracy of the claims.
