Protest in Osogbo over Tribunal Decision Breach

Members and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, took to the streets of Osogbo, Osun State’s capital, to protest the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision.

Protesters marched from Osogbo’s Jaleyemi area to the popular Olaiya junction around 4 p.m. on Friday.

As the intersection became congested, three PDP-branded vans were spotted among other vehicles, including motorcycles.

Demonstrators erected roadblocks at the roundabout, impeding free movement of vehicles.

However, it was a peaceful demonstration, as residents went about their daily business.

The PDP members who were dissatisfied accused the Election Tribunal of injustice and unfairness for declaring Oyetola the winner of the governorship election, insisting that Adeleke would remain in office.

The placards read, “Imole has arrived; Osun citizens reject Oyetola; Tribunal panel not fair.” The local government of Olorunda has said no to the tribunal. Adeleke, among others, is the victim of injustice.

On Friday morning, the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal fired Governor Ademola Adeleke and declared former governor Adegboyega Oyetola the winner of the July 16, 2022 governorship election.
