Prophetess arrested over death of mother, baby in Ondo

A prophetess, identified as Mrs Folashade Adekola, has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command, over the death of a mother, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn baby.

This was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, on Tuesday.

According to her, the deceased died from complications following childbirth inside the suspect’s church in the state capital of Akure’s Oke-Aro neighborhood. The baby was said to have also died immediately.

According to the PPRO, the deceased’s brother reported the incident to the police station, and the men of the command then arrested the suspect.

She also revealed that the prophetess was brought to the State’s Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Department for additional examination.

According to a family source who asked to remain anonymous, the deceased’s husband received a call from a church representative informing him that his wife had given birth. The deceased’s husband called a family member and both rushed to the church.

He clarified that when they arrived, they were informed that the mother was still alive but the baby had passed away following delivery.

He pointed out, however, that prior to her being taken to a nearby hospital, they had seen the deceased in a pool of blood, bleeding heavily.

Due to her condition, she was rejected at three hospitals and she died in the process of reviving her in the last hospital that admitted her. To our surprise, we got to the church to collect the baby’s remains and found the corpse in a room. The condition of the room was very worrisome as it did not look like a delivery room.
