Property destroyed after a tanker catches fire in Ondo

On Saturday evening, a tanker carrying petrol fell and caught fire in Idanre community in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, destroying property worth millions of naira. 

According to reports, the fire destroyed the filling station as well as a nearby building. However, no one was killed in the incident, but the fuel station and the building next to it were destroyed. 

According to an eyewitness, the tanker, which was carrying Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, was at a community filling station to transmit into the underground tank of the filling station through a large pipe when it caught fire.

The eyewitness said, ” The tanker arrived at that petrol station this evening and as the workers in the station were transferring the fuel inside it into the underground tank, suddenly the fire began and everybody quickly ran for their lives.

“It burnt down the filling station completely and the house beside the station was also burnt. But later the firefighters arrived the scene and put out the fire.”

Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that there were no casualties in the inferno. 

“The timely intervention of the men of the state fire service prevented the fire from wreaking further havoc,” according to the PPRO.
