A prison officer has sparked widespread debate online after sharing controversial advice to married women on how to handle infidelity in marriage.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the officer claimed that men rarely forgive wives who cheat, urging women not to forgive their husbands if they are unfaithful.
According to him, walking away from a cheating husband is the only way to teach him a lasting lesson, even if it comes at a personal cost.
He wrote:
“Married women, listen to me.
Men will not forgive you if you cheat.
So when he cheats too, don’t forgive him.
Leave him. Pack your bags and leave his house.
Even though you will later become a single mother and start dating a married man yourself,
But at least you will have taught him a lesson he will never forget by leaving a cheater.
Am I making sense?”
Mixed Reactions Online
The post quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from social media users, with many disagreeing sharply with his stance.
Obaloluwa wrote:
“Married women no listen to am o. If your husband no dey beat you, just dey manage the weyrey like that.”
New Dawn questioned the logic behind the advice, saying:
“Make dem leave go dey sleep with other women husband abi.”
Charlene added humor to the debate:
“I’ll cheat before I leave jari 😂 and not as a single mum.”
Henry Drake criticized the officer for what he described as irresponsible counsel:
“Some of you should learn how to take care of people’s problems after giving them bad advice.
It’s who has enough leverage that leaves a stable home because the man cheated. Leaving to teach him a lesson—you’d have learnt you’re not the center of attraction.”
Adeyinka, however, partly agreed with the advice:
“It’s the best thing to do but most women won’t. They would rather cheat back in the name of payback. But this life no balance. Women who cheat back usually lose in the end.”
Others expressed fatigue over constant discussions about infidelity. Amalii wrote:
“Please, why do you guys talk about cheating in marriage like it is normal? Can’t you post positive things about marriage? Every day cheating, cheating—nawa oo.”
Bussty concluded with skepticism:
“I kukuma trust Naija married women. They will keep cheating back and giving you pikin wey nor be una own.”
The post continues to fuel conversations around forgiveness, gender expectations, and whether infidelity should automatically signal the end of a marriage.
