Police probe murder of 16-year-old boy on football pitch

An investigation into the purported murder of 16-year-old Jamilu Lasisi in the Ibegba neighborhood of the state’s Sagamu Local Government Area has been launched by the Ogun State Police Command.

Even though the police claimed that Alex Eziochukwu, one of the suspects, had been arrested in connection with the teen’s purported murder, it was discovered on Wednesday night that an investigation had begun to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Around 4:00 am, an informant’s tip led to the arrest of the suspect, Eziochukwu.

Omolola Odutola, a spokesman for the state command, confirmed Eziochukwu’s arrest and stated that he and the deceased had an argument that resulted in a confrontation on Tuesday.

While the fight was going on, our correspondent learnt that the victim fell on the football pitch before he was declared dead after he was rushed down to the hospital for medical attention.

After the death of the teenager had been confirmed by a doctor, the suspect was said to have fled, leading the police to launch a manhunt, which subsequently led to his arrest on Wednesday morning.

Odutola said, “A phone call was received from one Tobi Olarewaju that his nephew, Jamiu Lasisi, 16 years old, of the same address, was playing football in the area alongside others.

An argument broke out between him and one of the football players during this process, and he passed out. He was taken to Owokoniran Hospital, GRA Sagamu, where an attending physician pronounced him dead.

“A squad of investigators was dispatched to the scene on Tuesday in response to the report, and they thoroughly searched the area in an attempt to apprehend the suspect, but to no avail.”

She also mentioned that the body was being moved from Owokoniran Hospital to the mortuary.
