Police officer opens fire on truck tyre over bribe in Onitsha, DPO buys new one to end roadblock

An Anambra police officer has come under fire for allegedly shooting a truck driver’s tire because the driver refused to pay a bribe.

User @ChuksEricE posted about the incident on X (formerly Twitter), which took place at the Onitsha Head Bridge.

The post claims that the altercation started when a truck driver refused to give the officer a bribe.

According to reports, the officer shot one of the truck’s tires in retaliation.

Disturbed by the action, other truck drivers stopped traffic on the main thoroughfare and insisted on getting a new tire before continuing.

The protest led to hours of gridlock, prompting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the station to step in.

To restore order, the DPO reportedly bought a new tyre for the affected driver.

As the story gained traction online, many Nigerians took to the comment section to express shock and frustration over the incident.
