The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an investigation into Thursday’s fatal train crash in Kubwa. Naija News previously reported that an Abuja-bound train collided with a moving car at Chikakore, in the Kubwa area of Abuja, causing the train to break down. The train crushed a black Toyota Camry from the driver’s side while the vehicle was crossing the rail track, according to a video of the accident.
The tragic accident occurs just days after the federal government announced the resumption of train services on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.
FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh responded to the incident, saying, “We are aware of the unfortunate incident of rail/motor fatal accident that occurred at the Chikakore axis in the Kubwa area council of the FCT.” Upon receiving the information, police crime scene investigators from the Byazin Divisional Police Headquarters rushed to the scene and took command of the situation, where the victim was confirmed dead by medical personnel on the scene.
“Investigation has commenced by the railway division having jurisdiction over the track. Findings and safety tips already existing will soon be reiterated to ensure a non-repeat of such incidents.”
