In a disturbing video that has gone viral online, Nigerian police officers are accused of smashing a man’s car’s side mirror during a stop-and-search operation because the man refused to pay them ₦500 even though he had all the necessary vehicle documentation.
The incident, which showed a heated exchange between the officers and the car’s occupants—a man and a woman—was posted on X (formerly Twitter).
In the video, the visibly upset woman can be heard confronting the officers, saying, “This is very wrong, you’re not supposed to break the side mirror.”
The man, who was driving, explained that he provided all necessary vehicle documents, yet the officers still damaged his car.
According to the caption of the video, the side mirror was smashed using a gun, allegedly because he didn’t give the demanded ₦500.
The clip has since gone viral, drawing outrage from Nigerians who flooded the comment section to condemn the officers’ actions and demand accountability.
