A 42-year-old pastor was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a 25-year-old woman while claiming to be offering spiritual healing.
The pastor was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Mahwelereng Regional Court for the crime he committed in Masodi village in 2022.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the Limpopo police, the pastor tricked the woman into thinking she needed to be delivered because she had a spiritual issue.
According to Ledwaba, a 42-year-old man exploited his authority to rape a defenseless woman after tricking her into thinking she had a disease that required “spiritual intervention.”
The man of God was able to rape the victim after she brought her ailing mother to him for prayers.
In order to perform spiritual steaming, the victim was allegedly asked to undress by the pastor. During the alleged spiritual steaming, the victim was sexually assaulted by the pastor.
The Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit took over the investigation after the woman reported being raped at the police station. Sergeant Lesetja Langa was in charge of the case.
The pastor has been jailed for rape after he was found guilty.
