From Punch

A two-storey building has collapsed on Amusu Street, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday.

Residents nearby scrambled for safety as the building collapsed, as seen in a video that has gone viral.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of LASEMA’s Public Affairs Unit, has confirmed that there were no casualties in the building collapse.

In a statement, the LASEMA boss said that the building collapsed on its own at about 8.45am.

“LASEMA Response Teams in Search and Rescue Operation is at a self-collapsed building on Amusu Street, Baale Bus Stop, Orile Iganmu.

“No casualties and updates to follow,” he said

No casualties were reported in the incident, according to a Lagos State Emergency Management Agency official who confirmed it in an anonymous manner.

The official stated that prior to the building collapsing, everyone inside had been evacuated.

“I can confirm to you that the incident happened this morning but there were no casualties. An evacuation already took place before the collapse.”

The LASEMA source went on to say that first responders had already arrived at the scene.

A four-story building on Lagos Island collapsed in May, trapping an undetermined number of people.

The incident took place in Iga Iduganran, close to the Lagos Oba’s palace.

At No. 49 Oyinlola Street, Off Adealu Bus Stop, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos State, family members residing in the boys’ quarters narrowly avoided death in July when the quarters gave way.
